Volunteer Opportunities: Opportunities

Whether you have a few hours to share each week or a few hours each month, we can use your help!

Our volunteer program is flexible and allows you the opportunity to:

  • Help others
  • Keep active
  • Gain skills and experience
  • Provide respite and companionship

Visiting Nurse Service Volunteers:
Provide invaluable assistance to patients and caregivers in their homes.  Your volunteer support greatly improves the quality of life for our patients.  In addition, volunteers provide indirect assistance to our patients by working to assist staff in the office.  Previous medical experience is not required since you will be doing non-medical functions.  Training is available for all positions and you need to be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.  The time commitment of approximately 2-4 hours a week is expected.  Listed are several volunteer opportunities that will interest you.

Visit Volunteer:
Provide companionship to patients recovering from an injury or illness.  Visit in their home to help with meals, light housework, transportation to doctor’s appointments, reading a book or newspaper, or running errands.

Hospice Volunteer:
Provide respite care to allow caregivers a much-needed break since their demands are a “24/7” commitment.  Spend time with the hospice patients providing companionship and non-medical functions in the home.

Office Volunteer:
Provide direct support to office staff in the central office and surrounding counties.  Assist with filing, computer projects, mailings, phone calls and more.

Abbie Hunt Bryce Home:
Provide support to individuals who are terminally ill and without resources in a comfortable home-like environment.  Assist with a variety of duties from companionship, food preparations, transportation, spiritual care, and office support to much more.

Flu Shot Volunteer:
Participate in the Flu Shot Clinics available in central Indiana during the fall by VNS through on-site administrative support and greeting clients.  Training is day of commitment and on-site.

See “Training” for more information.
